TRACS Jewelry Repair System
TRACS is a repair tracking system that organizes jewelry repairs as systematically as the File-A-Gem system organizes loose gem inventories. TRACS not only controls repair jobs, but offers the professional jeweler protection against customer claims. When a customer brings a repair job into the store, an order form is filled out. The form records the date, the customer’s home and work phone numbers, a description of the item left for repair, instructions for the requested services and the scheduled date for the work. The customer’s stated value of the item and the estimate of charges are both entered on the order form and signed by both parties. The TRACS System provides both the repair shop and the customer with a record of the transaction. Misunderstandings are avoided. Because the job order is automatically recorded in triplicate, there is a receipt for the customer, a copy to accompany the job and a file copy. Outside Service Cards supplement the TRACS System by recording items that have been sent to the factory or trade shop. When a job is shipped, the Outside Service Card is kept in the repair file, showing the job’s shipping date, its destination and what work was requested. File-A-Gem’s TRACS System includes an initial supply of clear plastic bags for storing the customer’s item and the TRACS job ticket. As with File-A-Gem files, the information is plainly visible, and handling is simplified. The TRACS service order can be read through the clear plastic bag, and additional paperwork is eliminated. Each TRACS package includes 2,000 triplicate TRACS service order forms in books of 50. Initial orders contain sample Outside Service Cards and a limited supply of plastic storage bags.
